History


Boerum Hill is a neighborhood within Brooklyn, which is one of five boroughs in New York City. Its history is rich and extends back into the seventeenth century, like most of Brooklyn and Manhattan. Settled by Dutchmen during the mid-1600s, Boerum Hill is actually named after one of the families that lived within the area. The Boerum family owned a colonial farm in the area that makes up Boerum Hill today.

During the 1800s, many real estate developers began investing in Boerum Hill properties. Industrialization hit Boerum Hill, and many immigrants moved to Boerum Hill for work purposes.
