History


So you are moving to New your City and you are not sure where to look for an apartment? One perfect neighborhood is Kensington. Kensington was settled in 1737 by Dutch Farmers. Most of the neighborhood was developed in 1885, after the completion of the Ocean Parkway. The neighborhood was named after a borough in West London. A lot of the homes in Kensington were started in the 1920s by Irish and Italian immigrants. In today’s housing market, quite a few of the original homes and apartments are available for rent.

Description


Kensington is a neighborhood in the center of the borough of Brooklyn. It is located just below Windsor Terrace, straddling McDonald and Ocean Avenues, and very close to Prospect Heights and Greenwood Cemetery. Kensington is bursting with diversity with a mix of art-deco apartment buildings, row houses and some single-family Victorian homes. The rental homes and apartments in Kensington can be found just about anywhere in the neighborhood.

The shopping district on Church Avenue is fairly busy but a little downscale. There are several smaller shopping districts located along Ditmas Avenue and Cortelyou Road. Each of these areas is unique in nature. Some have small restaurants and shops, while some have larger supermarkets with larger scaled eateries.

Dinosha Albanian Village on Church Avenue is a dream for people who love fruit. Just about any type of juice you can imagine, this place has it. Another great place on Church Avenue is the Taqueria Los Poblanos. This restaurant has authentic Mexican foods from spicy shrimp to Puebla style tacos. One of the best restaurants in the Kensington neighborhood is The Farm on Adderly, which is located on Cortelyou Road. The restaurant only uses local ingredients and is a friendly and relaxed environment.

Most apartment or home rentals in Kensington are located a short walk from the south end of Prospect Park. The park has soccer fields, tennis courts and baseball fields. Families can enjoy a nice weekend day in the park, or at the Prospect Park Lake which is also close by.

Kensington offers a few choices in the area of “Night Life”. From the Irish pub, Shenanigans Pub, to the local neighborhood bar, Denny’s Steak Pub, people have a variety of choices. There are several pubs located right outside the subway station, one even offers a great 2-for-1 happy hour.
