HistoryLong Island City was once home to Native Americans who traveled the East river with their canoes. During the 1640s Dutch colonist settled and farmed the area. A decade later William Hallet Sr. bought the land from the Native Americans. During the early 1800s turned the area into a village and named it Astoria.
