A famous Dutchman inspired the name of Kips Bay. Jacobus Henderson Kip was a former farmland owner during the late 1600s. Due to the American Revolution, only one original building in Kips Bay still stands today. The film "Gangs of New York" focuses on what took place in Kips Bay during the American Revolution. Today, Kips Bay and Murray Hill continue to be understated and quiet areas that draw young professionals.
